The Moss Vale Sub-Branch has a new president after 13 years.

The sub-branch elected Squadron Leader Dr Allan Watt to the position at its recent annual general meeting – replacing long-serving president Bob McLaren.

Dr Watt is an active serving officer in the Royal Australian Air Force working in the area of cyber security and is a former Vice President of the New Zealand Sub-Branch of the RSL.

He was also previously an officer in the New South Wales police force.

“It is a privilege to be elected as president of the sub-branch by the members,” Dr Watt said this week.

“My predecessor did a tireless job in his time in the role and has laid an excellent foundation for us to take the sub-branch on the next steps forward.”

In the short time since his election Dr Watt has already identified raising the local community’s awareness of the sub-branch and its role with the view to recruiting new members.

The sub-branch has already set up a Facebook page showing a range of photographs from recent ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day commemorations and to act as a focus for communications for members and interested members of the local community.

“We are lucky in the Moss Vale Sub-Branch that among our membership there are people with the professional experience we need to help us achieve our objectives.

“We’ve already made a start gathering a team together.  And while he has retired as president Bob McLaren will not be lost to the sub-branch as he will continue in the role of branch historian and librarian maintaining and managing our extensive museum of military memorabilia and library of over 1000 books.”

The Moss Vale RSL Sub-Branch meets once a month.
