A 59-year-old Robertson man has been refused bail after police alleged he led officers on a pursuit through Robertson before crashing a utility, fleeing the scene and later falsely reporting the vehicle stolen.

Police allege they attempted to stop a silver utility towing a trailer on South Street, Robertson, about 1.25pm on June 4. After officers activated lights and sirens, the driver allegedly failed to stop and a pursuit was initiated.

The utility allegedly travelled along McEvilly Road, reaching speeds of up to 117km/h in a 70km/h zone before continuing onto Belmore Falls Road.

About 1.30pm, police allege the vehicle failed to negotiate a bend, left the roadway and crashed into scrub. The driver allegedly ran from the scene and was not located despite a police search.

The utility and trailer were seized for forensic examination. Police allege both were unregistered and displaying number plates that did not belong to either vehicle.

The following day, police attended a Robertson address after receiving a report of a break and enter. The registered owner of the utility reported the vehicle and trailer had been stolen from the property. Police also received a report that the registration plates attached to the trailer had allegedly been stolen from another Robertson address.

Following further investigations, police arrested a 59-year-old man at a Robertson residence about 4.30pm on June 10.

Police will allege the man was the driver involved in the pursuit and that his driver's licence was cancelled at the time of the incident.

He was taken to Southern Highlands Police Station and charged with police pursuit, driving whilst licence cancelled, using an unregistered vehicle, using an unregistered trailer, two counts of using a vehicle with an unauthorised number plate affixed, larceny of a number plate, falsely representing to police an act or event calling for investigation, and owner not disclosing the identity of a driver or passenger.

The man was refused bail and is due to appear before Moss Vale Local Court on June 23.

Police investigations are continuing.
