Roadside drug test leads to $695,000 cannabis discovery
A man will face court today after police allegedly discovered 139 cannabis plants worth almost $700,000 during a truck stop near Yass.
A man will face court today after police allegedly discovered 139 cannabis plants worth almost $700,000 during a truck stop near Yass.
Traffic and Highway Patrol officers from Yass stopped the truck on the Hume Highway at Bookham about 4.30pm yesterday, Friday 14 August, for roadside testing.
Police allege the 32-year-old driver returned a positive indication for methylamphetamine.
Further inquiries allegedly revealed his driver's licence had been cancelled.
Officers searched the truck and allegedly discovered 139 cannabis plants, which police estimate had a potential street value of $695,000.
The man was arrested and taken to Yass Police Station, where he was charged with supplying cannabis greater than an indictable amount and less than a commercial quantity, unlawfully possessing an Australian driver licence, and driving while his licence was cancelled.
He was refused bail and is due to appear before Bail Division Court 3 today, Saturday 15 August.
