A master plan for Jurd Park in Colo Vale has been revised to include a pump track and skate facility.

Wingecarribee Shire Council resolved at its August meeting to place the revised master plan on public exhibition for 28 days.

It will be adopted on conclusion of the exhibition period if no submissions are received.

However none of the renewal and upgrade projects identified in the master plan feature in council’s four-year capital works program and its implementation will be primarily dependent on grant funding opportunities and developer contributions.

Jurd Park currently provides two soccer fields, two baseball diamonds, two tennis courts, a small playground, amenities building and facilities for the Loop Line Pony Club.

One of the actions listed in council’s Community and Recreational Facilities Strategy – adopted in October 2023 – was the development of a master plan for Jurd Park looking at additional uses, including the provision of a cricket pitch.

Council conducted extensive consultation with key stakeholders, local residents and the broader community in early 2024 before engaging landscape architects Sturt Noble Associates to develop a concept master plan for the park.

The concept master plan included two (60m x 100m) competition size football fields and a turf cricket pitch, cricket nets and a baseball square along with drainage improvements and competition-standard floodlights.

Other proposed improvements included a maintenance shed, tiered seating, a new Level 2 playground, half court basketball, picnic facilities and a native garden.

Feedback on the concept plan was overwhelmingly positive.

After council consulted with the community about proposed improvements to the Colo Vale Railway Park, it recognised there was a significant level of support for a pump track and skate facility for the area but identified Jurd Park as a more suitable location.

Sturt Noble Associates were subsequently engaged to revise the initial Jurd Park master plan to accommodate a pump track and skate park.

A staff report tabled at council’s August 20 meeting noted that the proposed new playground had been reduced in size to accommodate the pump track while the basketball court had been reduced from a half court to a smaller ‘pick up’ style court to enable the inclusion of a skate park.

The pump track will be of a beginner to intermediate level to allow for it to be used by children of all ages and abilities. The beginner to intermediate level track was chosen because of the park’s proximity to Cole Vale Public School.

The basketball court and skate park will be located on the other side of the amenities block from the pump track and playground to offer a more teenage or ‘youth-based’ recreation opportunity.
