Reject Repoly has done it again – pulling off another successful fundraiser that far exceeded expectations thanks to the support of the local community.

Organisers had been hoping to raise $40,000 from a golf day at Moss Vale Golf Club, but raised more than $55,000.

It has been described as the most successful fundraising golf day ever held in the Southern Highlands.

The sold-out event brought together 18 teams and sponsors across all 18 holes in spectacular autumn sunshine.

The event’s principal sponsor was Harbison, with CEO David Cochran on hand at the end of the day to present the prizes.

All money raised on the day will help fund the legal fight against the proposed Repoly plastics recycling facility in Moss Vale.

“We have to thank the players and sponsors for their support and recognise the partnership of Moss Vale Golf Club in making this such a record-breaking success,” said Reject Repoly co-chair and golf day convenor John Hopkins.

“On this fine autumn day, at this historic golf club, everyone was reminded just how totally wrong this development is - less than three kilometres away.

“Heavy industry is not compatible with our clean, green present or a sustainable future,” Mr Hopkins said.

“A plastics factory, producing flakes, pellets and powder, with a real risk of toxic fire, is even more unacceptable to our Highlands’ future - it’s sheer madness.

“Reject RePoly, working closely with Southern Highlands Matters (SHM), has now raised funds to help secure effective legal support, but there is still more work to be done to give us the best chance of beating the appeal in the Land and Environment Court.

“We admire the commitment of Sam Wood, who is Chair of Southern Highlands Matters and the second Respondent in the appeal, and we will continue to work with her and our incredible community to raise funds.

“The support across the community has been consistent and very encouraging. We are now in the fifth year of this fight, which we thought we had won with the Independent Planning Commission’s decision last January.

“Now the community’s voice is in the strongest position yet to be heard in Court - an important message of solidarity for those whose lives have been turned upside down by the threat of Repoly’s ambitions,” Mr Hopkins said.

Mr Cochran said Harbison had been very proud of the opportunity to sponsor the golf day and described its support of Reject Repoly as a “no brainer”.

“We really understand the importance of protecting this amazing community,” he said.

Friday’s golf day followed a successful auction and gala dinner at Hopewood House in March that raised more than $220,000.

Golf Day sponsors: Harbison, Shaw Reynolds, Southern Highlands Private Hospital, Green Door Dental, The Bone Surgeon, Dirty Jane’s, Moss Vale Motors, Ray White, Gubbins, IGA, Knowles Pharmacy, Haille Paine, Resort Brokers, Campbell Jones, Klemtech Auto, Poolside, Bridgeston, Boyce Law, Lenergy, Southern Highlands Blinds and Awnings.
