Bob Montgomery was a hero and a gentleman according to Member for Whitlam Carol Berry.

“He was driven by compassion and kindness and was a truly generous, inspiring and extraordinary man.”

Mr Montgomery passed away on August 3 – days after completing an epic bike ride from Broome to Bowral with his grandson to raise money for Motor Neurone Disease.

It is understood Mr Montgomery raised more than $300,000 for MND research and awareness – including more than $120,000 from his most recent ride.

The 5000km trek took Mr Montgomery and grandson Tom Malcolm, 18, six weeks to complete.

Mrs Berry – who welcomed Bob and Tom on their arrival in Bowral – described their achievement as “truly extraordinary”.

“Their determination, resilience and unwavering commitment to making a difference have inspired communities across the country,” she said at the time.
