The Yass Rams Rugby Union Club is mourning the loss of one of its own.

Players, supporters family and friends gathered at Victoria Park on Saturday to laugh and cry as they shared their memories of club legend and “amazing” individual, Ben Downey.

A Rams spokesperson said the club was devastated over Ben’s death.

“Ben was a champion of the club. He played over 100 games for the Rams, including winning a grand final.

“Every minute he would play for the club, he left everything out on the field,” the spokesperson said.

“The spirit and passion that Ben brought to this club is something that will be forever cherished and irreplaceable. A great player, leader and friend. A true Rams man.”

The club said Ben was and always would be a part of the Rams family.

“Our thoughts are with Ben’s family and particularly with his son Cooper, also a member of the club, and a perfect embodiment of Ben’s values and rugby ability.”

Ben passed away at home on August 23, aged 35.
