Australia Post announced late Tuesday that it had appointed a new Community Postal Agency (CPA).
The CPA will operate from the same building formerly occupied by The Little Barn in Braidwood Street.
It will operate 7am to 12 noon Monday-Wednesday, 1pm to 6pm Thursdays and Fridays and 8am to 12 noon Saturdays.
As reported by The Southern Wire, there was uncertainty about the future of postal services in Tarago after the town’s former CPA, The Little Barn, announced it would be closing in late September.
As Australia Post sought expressions of interest from other businesses in the town interested in taking over the CPA, Goulburn-Mulwaree Shire Council resolved at its September meeting to “review any viable options” to secure the future of Australia Post services in Tarago.
Deputy mayor Caitlin Flint said postal services in townships like Tarago were “critical” and once gone would be difficult to get back.
Australia Post thanked the Tarago community for its patience as it worked through the EOI process and finalised a new CPA arrangement.
A spokesperson said CPAs were almost always run as a part of a mixed business model which “works best for agents ends ensures postal services can remain in communities”.
CPAs provide basic postal services including the sale of mailing products and the sending and receiving of mail and parcels.
Australia Post has placed community notices around Tarago advising residents that postal services will continue to be provided through the building at 1-3 Braidwood Street.
