Police make arrest after Goulburn manhunt
A 26-year-old man has been charged with alleged domestic violence offences following a manhunt in Goulburn.
A 26-year-old man has been charged with alleged domestic violence offences following a manhunt in Goulburn.
Police from The Hume Police District were called to a home in Grunsell Crescent, Goulburn at approximately 5.20pm on Friday (May 15) following reports of an assault.
They were told a man had allegedly broken into the home – injuring himself in the process – before he began assaulting a woman inside.
The man allegedly choked the woman before threatening her with a knife and demanding that she treat his injuries.
He left the scene after allegedly damaging some of the woman’s personal property and stealing her phone.
The woman was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to hospital for further treatment.
Following an extensive search across the Goulburn area, police located the man riding a bicycle on Gerathy Street at approximately 2.30pm yesterday (Saturday).
The 26-year-old was arrested after a short foot pursuit.
Police say a taser was deployed during the arrest.
He was taken to Goulburn Police Station where he was charged with a number of offences including stalk/intimidate intend fear physical harm, knowingly contravene prohibition/etc in AVO, contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO, use offensive weapon with intent to commit indictable offence, destroy or damage property less than or equal to $2000, steal from person value less than or equal to $2000, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, aggravated break and enter commit serious indictable offence, intentionally choke etc person with recklessness, rider not wear approved bicycle helmet/fitted/fastened and ride bicycle negligently.
The man was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 3 today (Sunday).
