NSW Planning Minister Paul Scully has met with Yass Valley Mayor Jasmin Jones, as the council secures state funding to investigate a major water project tied to future housing growth.

The meeting, held in Yass yesterday (30 April 2026), focused on housing supply, water infrastructure and development pressures across the region.

It comes as Minister Scully announced a $191,065 contribution to Yass Valley Council to fund a technical feasibility study into transferring water from Canberra to Murrumbateman.

Mayor Jasmin Jones said the study could unlock significant new housing capacity.

“This could fast track a further 2,958 homes in Yass and Murrumbateman as part of our current settlement strategy,” she said.

The funding has been provided through the Regional Housing Strategic Planning Fund and is aimed at supporting councils to plan for future growth.

Mr Scully’s visit also included discussions around the recently adopted Development Control Plan for the Parkwood development, which is expected to deliver at least 5,600 homes.

NSW MP Bob Nanva also attended the meeting, which included a tour of the Crago Mill precinct, recently completed to support council operations.

Mayor Jones said the visit was an opportunity to highlight the infrastructure challenges facing the region as it prepares for growth.

“An important meeting in Yass… to discuss housing growth, water supply and the challenges of renewable projects,” she said.

The water feasibility study is expected to play a key role in determining how quickly further housing can be delivered across the Yass Valley area.
