Moss Vale & District Basketball Association will host its inaugural Pink Round this month, celebrating women in sport while raising funds for local domestic violence support service Pop In.
The event on Saturday, June 20 will feature a triple-header at Moss Vale Basketball Courts, with the Moss Vale Magic Youth Women’s game taking centre stage as the featured match of the day, alongside the Youth Men’s and Waratah Men’s fixtures.
The Pink Round aims to recognise and celebrate the role women play in basketball, both on and off the court, including players, coaches, parents, volunteers and supporters.
In a strong show of community support, this year’s event will also raise funds for Pop In, a local service providing essential assistance to women and families experiencing domestic violence.
Local sponsors and businesses have come together to support the fundraising effort, with game day partners including Sutton Forest Inn and Harrigan Ford, alongside raffle prize donations from Briars Inn, Andrea’s Chocolate Emporium, Empire Cinemas, About Time Plumbing & Civil Construction and The Bookshop Bowral.
The major raffle prizes include two Fiji holiday packages donated by Raffe Hotels & Resorts and Likuri Island Resort.
Valued at over $8,000 combined, the prizes are available through an online raffle, with tickets priced at $10 and all proceeds directed to Pop In (T&Cs apply).
Association chairman David Watts said the decision to support a local charity reflects a desire to ensure fundraising has the greatest possible impact within the local community.
“The directors decided to support a local charity as they believed the proceeds would stretch further to help those in need,” Mr Watts said.
A standout feature of the fundraising effort is the Swear Bear JC merchandise range, developed by Moss Vale Magic import player Jordan Rawls and co-founder and merch designer Cat Fanto. All proceeds from merchandise sales will also support Pop In.
