One dead, four injured in crash near Yass

In an update to our earlier story, a woman has died and four people taken to hospital – two of them in a critical condition and one serious – after a two-vehicle crash near Yass earlier today.

In an update to our earlier story, a woman has died and four people taken to hospital – two of them in a critical condition and one serious – after a two-vehicle crash near Yass earlier today.

The accident occurred just before 1.45pm at the intersection of the Hume Highway and Yass Valley Way at Manton, 10km north of Yass.

Police say a Mazda sedan with four occupants collided head-on with a Ford station wagon with one occupant.

A 69-year-old woman who was a passenger in the Mazda died at the scene.

NSW Ambulance Paramedics treated the driver of the Mazda, a 37-year-old man, for chest and pelvis injuries.

He was taken to Canberra Hospital in a critical condition.

Another passenger in the Mazda, a woman aged in her 30s, was treated at the scene before being airlifted to Canberra Hospital in a critical condition.

Another passenger in the Mazda, a 70-year-old man, was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to Canberra Hospital in a serious condition.

The driver of the Ford station wagon, a 32-year-old woman, sustained minor injuries and was taken to Canberra Hospital for further treatment.

A crime scene has been established and will be examined by officers from the Southern Crash Investigation Unit.

Officers from The Hume Police District will prepare a report for the coroner.

The crash forced the partial closure of the Hume Highway for several hours with diversions in place via Yass Valley Way.
