The Parliament of NSW’s Regional Roadshow will roll into Bowral this week, offering young people from the Southern Highlands a meaningful opportunity to engage with the democratic process, share their perspectives and connect directly with the democratic process.

Bowral is one of seven regional centres hosting the Roadshow this year, with high schools from across the region invited to nominate students in Years 10 to 12 to take part.

It will include a public speaking competition and a youth forum.

The public speaking competition will provide students with a platform to showcase their communication skills and confidence, while the youth forum will provide them with an opportunity to discuss issues that are of importance to them, to exchange ideas and contribute to conversations about their communities and their future.

President of the Legislative Council, Ben Franklin MLC, said the Roadshow would continue to demonstrate the strong appetite among young people in regional areas to engage in civic life.

“These Roadshows help young people be heard and to engage directly with Parliament in their own communities,” Mr Franklin said.

“They are about recognising the leadership potential of regional youth and ensuring they have opportunities to develop skills, build confidence and contribute meaningfully to our democracy.”

Member for Wollondilly Judy Hannan said she was looking forward to Thursday’s Roadshow visit.

“These students are the leaders of tomorrow and it is wonderful to see them given the opportunity to build confidence in public speaking, participate in debates and learn more about how our State's democracy works,” she said.

“I look forward to hearing their views, seeing them engage with one another and watching the next generation of leaders in action.”

Winners of each round of the public speaking competition will be invited to compete in the State Final, to be held in the Legislative Chamber at Parliament House in December.

The Regional Roadshow will be held at The Gibralter Bowral in Boronia Street this coming Thursday (June 11) with the public speaking competition set to run from 10.30am to 12.30pm followed by the youth forum from 2pm to 4pm.

Other centres hosting the 2026 Regional Roadshow include Tweed Heads, Ulladulla, Scone, Cowra, Albury and Macksville.
