Transport for NSW is rolling out a new trial across regional NSW – including the Wingecarribee Shire - to help transport disadvantaged people access education, training and employment.

Under the trial, Transport for NSW will fund 16 community transport providers including Gandangara Transport in the Wingecarribee to expand eligibility to people with limited or no private or public transport access who need to attend face-to-face study at TAFE NSW, a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) or attend work as an apprentice or trainee.

Currently, community transport is a service available to transport disadvantaged people such as eligible seniors, pensioners, those with accessibility needs or those who have limited access to public transport.

Transport for NSW’s Anthony Hayes said access to reliable and affordable transport remained one of the biggest barriers for people in regional communities.

“This trial is a valuable test-and-learn opportunity, helping us understand how community transport can better connect more people to education and employment, while continuing to support those who already rely on these services today.

“By extending community transport to support access to training, apprenticeships and further education, the trial could open new pathways for people and help them build new skills and secure long-term employment.”

The trial will be closely monitored, with feedback from customers and providers helping to inform future options.

The trial is time-limited and will run until June 30 next year, with start dates varying across regions. For more information visit transportnsw.info/travel-info/ways-to-get-around/community-
