Nearly $450,000 boost to make Goulburn's streets come alive
Goulburn Mulwaree Council has secured almost $450,000 in NSW Government funding to make it easier, faster and cheaper to stage street events in the city's CBD.
Goulburn Mulwaree Council has secured almost $450,000 in NSW Government funding to make it easier, faster and cheaper to stage street events in the city's CBD.
The council has been awarded $447,983 through Transport for NSW's Permit/Plug/Play Program, which aims to cut red tape around street-based events while investing in infrastructure to support more activations.
Mayor Nina Dillon said the funding would help create a more vibrant city while supporting local businesses and community groups.
"Events play a vital role in bringing people together, supporting local businesses and creating vibrant public spaces," Cr Dillon said.
"This funding will help Council reduce the complexity and cost of delivering street-based events while improving the experience for event organisers and the community."
The funding will allow the council to overhaul its event approval processes, introduce streamlined workflows and develop pre-approved traffic management plans to make organising events simpler.
New infrastructure will also be installed in key CBD locations to better support festivals, markets and other public events.
Business Manager Marketing, Events and Culture Sarah Ruberto said the project would remove many of the traditional hurdles associated with temporary road closures and street activations.
"This project is about making it easier for community organisations, businesses and event organisers to bring great ideas to life," Ms Ruberto said.
"By improving our processes and investing in place-enabling infrastructure, we can reduce costs, improve efficiency and support more events that activate our streets and public spaces."
Council said the project forms part of its broader vision to create a more vibrant, connected and activated city centre while boosting tourism, economic development and community wellbeing.
The Permit/Plug/Play Program is funded by the NSW Government and delivered by Transport for NSW to help councils across the state simplify approvals and encourage more street-based events.
