The 140th Moss Vale Show is set to be a cracker over the three days of this weekend, Friday March 13 to Sunday March 15, and that’s not just because of the fireworks set to be held on Saturday night.

First starting in 1882, the Moss Vale Show has been a staple part of the town’s calendar (excluding COVID restrictions in the early 2020’s) in the second weekend of March every year.

In 1888 it was a crucial part of the Australian centenary jubilee celebrations, with athletic events in the arena and a ball held in the pavilion.

It is throughout that same pavilion today that members of the Show Society have been fastidiously going through all the show entries and preparing them in their spots on the various tables and pinned onto the walls.

Your scribe managed to get a ‘sneak peek’ into the pavilion preparations this morning (Wednesday) and was suitably impressed with the standard of this year’s entries.

This year’s entries include crochet and needlework, photography from both young and old, Lego creations and art and craft from various children at local primary schools, plus much more.

The show will commence from 9am on Friday, with 2ST’s Graeme Day doing his outside broadcast on the stage from 9am – 12pm, and then throughout the afternoon until 4pm there will be children’s entertainment available.

Then at 4pm, the Junior Show Person award will be announced, and then the Mountain Dew Band will perform from 5pm.

In the main arena will be the horse events and around the grounds the traditional events will include the Farmyard Nursery, pavilion exhibits, woodturner’s display, Lake Mac Zoo Wildlife, carnival rides and stalls, Curly the Blacksmith and even a sheep mustering display.

Saturday will see more of the same but will also include a Heavy Horse Display by Exeter Plumbing from 4:30pm onwards, as well as the ever-popular motorbikes and demolition derby.

There will also be dance performances from 9:30 – 11:30am as well as performances by the Magic Jester at 12pm and 2pm. Mountain Dew Band will again perform at 1pm and 3pm.

The Mullet Competition travelling show moves from the Robertson Show last weekend to Moss Vale, which will be held at 5pm.

Then at 9pm the fireworks will wow the crowds, and these can often be seen in downtown Moss Vale, too!

Then finally on Sunday, the all-important Ute Show will be held in the Main Arena from 9am, with the motorbikes also making an appearance again at 10am, 12 noon and 3pm. Then at 1:30pm the popular Ute Barrel Race will take place.

Of course, the traditional show fare including show rides and food stalls and trucks will be available as well as the all-important showbag trucks for the kids (and adults!) alike.
