Moss Vale’s newest park opens
Despite the drizzle and mist, the opening of the new Coomungie Park at Moss Vale’s Ashbourne Estate still drew a crowd on Saturday afternoon.

Despite the drizzle and mist, the opening of the new Coomungie Park at Moss Vale’s Ashbourne Estate still drew a crowd on Saturday afternoon.
Representatives from property group NOVM, Ashbourne and Wingecarribee Shire councillors Nicole Smith, James Farrell and Sara Moylan as well as Council’s Director of Communities and Place, Michael McCabe were all in attendance to officially cut the ribbon and declare the playground open.
Around 40 members of the community also enjoyed some free coffee and delicious food served by Mittagong caterers Magnificup alongside children and management from Moss Vale Football Club, who had set up some football goals for the children to kick a ball around on the grass.
The park contains play equipment with soft-fall and concrete paths for children to ride their bikes around safely as well as established plants in garden beds around the playground area.
NOVM’s Development Manager for Ashbourne, Angela Villate thanked everyone for coming and experiencing the new park.
“It’s great that despite the weather we have a great turnout here today,” she said.
“On behalf of NOVM I want to welcome residents, purchasers of land and representatives from Wingecarribee Shire Council and we would also like to welcome the Moss Vale Football Club for coming today, too. It’s not only about selling land but creating place and a community that people want to belong to, and we’re immensely proud of what we’ve delivered so far.”
Councillor Nicole Smith also delivered a few words on behalf of Council.
“It’s great to see you all out here on this stunning Highlands day (despite the drizzling rain),” she joked.
“Places like this are important for connection within our community, and one of the wonderful things I’ve learnt this morning is about the diversity in the families who have already moved to Ashbourne. My understanding is we’ve got people here of all ages, and that’s what we really want and need, and I think a space like this is important for people to come together throughout the Highlands, within Moss Vale and in Ashbourne itself.”
The Southern Wire also spoke to a couple from Kellyville in Sydney’s north-western suburbs, Tim and Leena Surendonk, who are looking to downsize and move into a property in Stage 2B of Ashbourne in mid-2027.
“We’re really looking forward to moving down here to Moss Vale soon to a slightly cooler climate,” Mr. Surendonk said.
“This park will just add to the wonderful atmosphere for us to become a part of the Ashbourne community and also the wider community of Moss Vale and the Southern Highlands.”
