Moss Vale RDA set to benefit
The Lions Club of Moss Vale will donate $2000 to a local organisation enriching the lives of people with a disability through horse-related activities.
The Lions Club of Moss Vale will donate $2000 to a local organisation enriching the lives of people with a disability through horse-related activities.
Lions club president Bob Short confirmed that a $2000 donation would be made to the Riding for Disabled Moss Vale Centre.
The donation will include the proceeds from two fundraising barbecues at Gubbins Mitre 10 with the club to make up any shortfall.
The first of the two barbecues was held last Saturday after being postponed the weekend beforehand due to forecast strong winds and heavy rain.
Perfect weather on Saturday ensured people were out in force and Gubbins Mitre 10 customers were keen to support the Lions club’s fundraising efforts.
Many people took the opportunity to purchase a sausage sandwich and children were eager to meet special guest ‘Teddy’ the RDA pony.
An exact date for the second RDA fundraising barbecue hasn’t been set but it is expected to be in coming weeks.
The Moss Vale RDA centre was founded in 1972 by Pearl Batchelor OAM and first operated at Throsby Park in Moss Vale, later moving to the Fitzroy Falls Equestrian Centre and more recently to Hollyhall Farm in Avoca.
Fully qualified coaches and trained assistants deliver sessions every second Wednesday morning during the school term for participants from across the Southern Highlands.
The activities help children and adults build confidence, skills, connection and enjoyment through working with horses and ponies in a supportive environment.
RDA Moss Vale secretary Leeonie Douglas said the centre was in urgent need of funding to help it continue operating and delivering its highly valued fortnightly program.
“We are now facing a very real funding challenge and need our community’s help to continue operating,” she said.
Donations of $2 are more are tax deductible.
