Organisers of the Bundanoon Highland Gathering (Brigadoon) have handed back another $40,000 to local volunteer and charity groups.

A spokesperson said the success of this year’s event had enabled the organising committee to disburse $41,615.

It brings the total donated back to the community since 1978 to a staggering $1.5 million.

“This incredible milestone is a testament to our community partners, sponsors, local businesses and the unwavering dedication of volunteer groups who roll up their sleeves each year.

“Together, we are creating a brighter, more sustainable future,” the spokesperson said.

The Bundanoon Highland Gathering is a not-for-profit registered charity.

Once all costs are taken into consideration and after appropriating a management budget for the following year all surplus monies are distributed back into the community.

The committee ensures that it recognises the commitment of those local volunteer and charity groups who give countless hours of labour to the gathering by disbursing monies raised on the day on a proportional basis to each organisation.

“Brigadoon is more than Australia’s premier Scottish Highland Gathering - it is an engine for local good,” the spokesperson said.

“By carefully managing our resources and keeping our future secure, we ensure that every single dollar of surplus success goes right back where it belongs: into the heart of the Southern Highlands.”

The committee has extended its “deepest, most heartfelt gratitude” to the small army of volunteers who contributed to the success of this year’s event.

The spokesperson said the volunteers had “brought a global celebration to life”.

Now it’s time to start planning for next year’s event and a call has gone out for people to join the “passionate, community-oriented volunteer committee”.

All committee work can be undertaken remotely via Zoom.

Those people interested are encouraged to join existing committee members for an informal meet and greet on Thursday, July 2. For more information email publicity.brigadoon@gmail.com

Committee meetings are held on the first Thursday of every month.
