Rob Melin will be back to defend his title at this year’s Australian Highland Heavy Weight Events Championship in Bundanoon.
The championship – featuring five different events – is one of the highlights of the annual Bundanoon Highland Gathering (Brigadoon).
It is run by the Kilted Warriors and is not open to public participation.
The Kilted Warriors have selected eight competitors for this year’s championship including defending champion Melin, Jamie Muscat, Lance Holland Keen, Luke Reynolds, Nigel Skurrie, Lachlan Page and Shane Carstairs.
It will commence at 11am and will continue through until 2pm and is being proudly sponsored by the Bundanoon Hotel.
Brigadoon organisers say it is an “outstanding” field of competitors and competition is expected to be fierce.
The five events include stone put, weight for height, caber toss, hammer throw and 28-pound weight throw.
The caber toss is considered the signature event, with competitors hurling a log generally measuring about 20 feet (six metres) and weighing approximately 150lbs (68kg).
Brigadoon organisers have thanked the Kilted Warriors for their continued support of the annual event.
The 2026 Highland Gathering will be held on Saturday, April 18 at the Bundanoon Oval and is expected to attract as many as 12,000 people from across the country.
Brigadoon – which started in 1978 – is one of the region’s most successful events and is widely regarded as one of the finest Highland Gatherings in Australia.
