Despite the drizzly conditions, the community of Medway turned out in force for their Garage Sale and Raffle at the Medway Hall this morning (Saturday).

The Medway Community Association Inc. (MCAI) held a sausage sizzle and live music from John Davis, as well as bric – a – brac, gardening equipment, clothing, CDs and books and a whole lot more on sale inside the hall.

There was even a raffle with the winners drawn out of the box by Wingecarribee Shire Councillors Rachel Russell, Sara Moylan, and Heather Champion.

First prize was a trailer – load of firewood, won by Dennis McManus, with second prize going to Alana Delamont and third prize to Cr. Rachel Russell.

Secretary of the Medway Community Association Incorporated (MCAI), Steve Denford, told The Southern Wire he was impressed with the turnout to the event despite the inclement weather.

“It was better than expected despite the wintry conditions, and it's been a great day all round,” he said.

“Not only for locals but from people from out of the area too. They came along to find a bargain and helped us put some money towards saving the building. There’s a lot more needed, but that’s our goal.”

Mr. Denford explained that there is a list of things that need to be fixed for the hall to become functional once again.

“We’ve got a list of things that need to be fixed for it to be used again, and we had some estimate quotes that we think are impossible for us to reach,” he said.

“To get those things, we need to have some tenure in the building, so a lease is required for the Community Association to have so that we can show people who can give us the funding an idea that the money is going to be spent where it should be.”

Councillor Sara Moylan also addressed the crowd and congratulated the MCAI on putting on the Garage Sale.

“We know that community is what this is all about,” she said.

“You cannot put a price on the community spirit that comes from a hall like this.

"So, I look forward one day to watching Carols by Candlelight on the stage back there at Christmas time, and I’ll look forward to the community getting together in this community hall and remembering what this is all about.

"Thank you to everybody for coming together to fight this and to save the community hall. Keep going, and we will deliver on this, one day!”

(NOTE: Video from the garage sale was also taken and will be uploaded shortly).
