Man critically injured in excavator fire at Colo Vale
A 42-year-old man has been airlifted to hospital in a critical condition after becoming trapped beneath an overturned excavator that caught fire in the Southern Highlands.
A 42-year-old man has been airlifted to hospital in a critical condition after becoming trapped beneath an overturned excavator that caught fire in the Southern Highlands.
Emergency services were called to McCallums Road at Colo Vale about 7pm on Saturday, 29 August 2026, following reports that a man had been injured in a fire.
Officers from The Hume Police District found the injured man near the overturned excavator, which was alight.
Members of the public helped free him before emergency services arrived.
NSW Rural Fire Service crews extinguished the blaze, while NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the man at the scene.
He was subsequently airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical condition.
The cause of the incident is under investigation.
