Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman has told The Southern Wire she was given very short notice of Premier Chris Minns’ visit to Moss Vale Fire Station last Thursday afternoon.

She says was only made aware of his visit to the Southern Highlands earlier that morning.

“I did not receive notice from the Premier’s office of his visit to Moss Vale Fire Station,” Mrs. Tuckerman told The Southern Wire.

“I was made aware through a media alert earlier that morning. It would have been in the best interest of the community that the Premier saw fit to include me to learn more about the core issues impacting our community.

“Instead, we saw the Premier move in and out of the electorate in record time, just enough time for a photo opportunity and a few minutes with the local council.”

Mrs. Tuckerman also emphasised that an issue of such importance as the proposed Repoly plastics recycling facility was vital for the Premier to know about, and to hear concerns from Moss Vale constituents directly.

“As you know, many community members hold concerns about the Repoly proposal, particularly with regard to fire risk for the project and the capabilities of our fire station to deal with a potential fire at Repoly,” she said.

“I became aware of the Premier’s visit shortly before it occurred, and given the lack of notice and invitation, I could not attend and simply ensured that there were community members (Anna Phillips, Peter Arkins and Kate Ingham) who were across the Repoly issue, and were aware that the Premier was in the area and that there might be an opportunity to raise concerns.”

Mrs. Tuckerman said in future that she would like to have more notice from the Premier if he was to visit the region again.

“I would certainly have preferred earlier communication from the Premier about the visit so that proper planning and engagement with the community could occur, but nevertheless was pleased that residents had an opportunity to raise their concerns directly,” she said.

“Our community is looking for a Premier that is genuinely interested in them and genuinely interested in listening to and solving their concerns.”
