Lions fire up the barbecue for Alexander

Alexander, 19, will be the special guest at the Lions Club of Moss Vale’s fortnightly fundraising barbecue at Gubbins Mitre 10.
All funds raised from Saturday’s barbecue will help Alexander pursue his sporting dream.
He will also have his bike there for people who want to take a closer look.
Alexander – who lives in the Southern Highlands and works for Spartan Creative – first started riding at age five.
He had his first dirt/flat track race at age 10 at Nepean Raceway – the same track at which his dad also started dirt/flat track racing aged 19.
He soon progressed through the ranks to win club championships in the Hunter Valley and on the Central Coast.
In 2022, Alexander had his first road race at the iconic Australian Grand Prix circuit on Phillip Island in the junior ‘Road to MotoGP’ program Oceania Junior Cup on a 150cc as a support class in the (ASBK) Australian Superbike Championship.
He raced in both the 2022 and 2023 seasons as part of the championship before making his debut on a 300cc in 2024 in the Super Sport 300 and continuing through until the end of 2025.
This year he was selected to race in the Asia Pacific R3 Cup as an Australian representative over six rounds in Australia, Indonesia, Japan and Thailand.
With the first two rounds in Australia and the third round at the Pertamina Mandalika Circuit in Lombok, Indonesia out of the way, Alexander is now preparing for round four at the Montegi Circuit in Japan (September) and the final two rounds at the Chang International Circuit in Thailand (November).
He says his current aspirations are to “get as far up the ranks as possible, representing everyone who supports me as a motorcycle racer from the Southern Highlands”.
Saturday’s barbecue will fire up at 9am and will continue through until 1pm.
A spokesperson for the Lions Club of Moss Vale described Nick Gubbins as “a wonderful community partner” – along with IGA Moss Vale and Sunrise Bakery.
Spartan Creative – where Alexander works – is another of the club’s community partners and has been “very supportive”.
The Lions Club of Moss Vale provides financial support for students transitioning to high school, youth mental health programs and community support for youth from Moss Vale performing in sports.
It recently raised $1500 through its fortnightly barbecues to help Moss Vale Gymnastics purchase a new trampoline.
All of the money raised through the fortnightly barbecues are used to support youth-related programs.
