Letter to the Editor - Woolworths Moss Vale
Dear Editor, I went to the Land & Environment court on site hearing on the morning of 20th May 2026 at the proposed Woolies development in Moss Vale.

Dear Editor,
I went to the Land & Environment court on site hearing on the morning of 20th May 2026 at the proposed Woolies development in Moss Vale.
It was an unusual meeting with some very passionate local speakers, BUT whilst the speakers made excellent points about the local traffic catastrophe being planned, no one mentioned the monkey in the room.
Why, when no one wants another supermarket in Moss Vale, has Council failed to take a stand on behalf of the community?
The main access point to this proposed excessive retail development is Council owned land opposite Valletta Street.
Allegedly, as the rumour goes, the developers approached Council when they were suspended and under the control of Administrator, Viv May, to gain access to their proposed development and, somehow, they allegedly received an undertaking “that for the purpose of the Development Application”, Council would provide access to the land. I am not sure what form the undertaking took, whether it was a lease or sale of the land, but it was certainly allegedly covered up at that time, which seems suspicious and obviously continues to be allegedly covered up by this alleged current inept Council.
What we as ratepayers need is an in-depth and independent investigation as to how the Developer has gained access to Council owned land for an unwanted retail development. A retail development which has the potential to kill the entire existing Moss Vale town centre.
