A learner driver accused of leading police on three pursuits has been charged after allegedly travelling at 160km/h on the Hume Highway before being stopped.

Police allege the 23-year-old man failed to stop for officers on three occasions on Wednesday afternoon, with two pursuits terminated due to safety concerns before a third pursuit ended with his arrest.

According to NSW Police, Traffic and Highway Patrol officers first attempted to stop a Haval station wagon on the Hume Highway at Goulburn about 4pm after allegedly detecting it travelling at 160km/h in a 110km/h zone.

Police allege the driver failed to stop and a pursuit was initiated before being terminated shortly afterwards due to safety concerns.

About 4.30pm, officers allegedly located the same vehicle travelling south on the Hume Highway at Manton. A second pursuit was commenced before again being terminated due to safety concerns.

Police allege the vehicle was detected a third time about 5.20pm travelling west on Burley Griffin Way near Harden. A further pursuit was initiated before the vehicle came to a stop a short time later.

The driver, a 23-year-old learner driver, and an 18-year-old female passenger were arrested at the scene.

Police said the driver underwent a roadside drug test which allegedly returned a positive result for methamphetamine.

During a search of the vehicle, officers allegedly located and seized approximately 15 grams of cannabis, 11 grams of methamphetamine and a knife.
