Lack of notice disappoints Canyonleigh Community Association
The Canyonleigh Community Association has expressed disappointment over the length of notice given for a drop-in session on the proposed Kerrawary Power Station near Marulan.
The Canyonleigh Community Association has expressed disappointment over the length of notice given for a drop-in session on the proposed Kerrawary Power Station near Marulan.
The drop-in session is being held by Origin Energy next Tuesday (July 21) – but the Association was only notified yesterday (Friday).
“The Association is disappointed by the very short notice provided to the community,” a spokesperson posted on Facebook earlier today (Saturday).
“It is our view that meaningful community consultation relies on residents having sufficient time to become aware of information sessions and make arrangements to attend.
“We will be conveying this concern to Origin Energy and encouraging them to provide more appropriate notice for any future engagement with our community.”
The Kerrawary Power Station is being described by Origin as a “proposed gas fired peaking power station and pipeline near Marulan (NSW) designed to provide flexible, dispatchable electricity to support a reliable energy system”.
A number of drop-in sessions have been planned for next week to provide residents with an opportunity to meet project team representatives and to learn more about the project.
Sessions will be held:
· At the Big Hill Rural Fire Brigade in Brayton between 10am and 12.30pm on Tuesday (July 21);
· At the Canyonleigh Community Hall between 2pm and 5pm on Tuesday (July 21);
· At the Marulan War Memorial Hall between 9am and 12pm on Wednesday (July 22);
· At the Crookwell Memorial Hall between 2.30pm and 5.30pm on Wednesday (July 22);
· At the Goulburn Community Centre between 8am and 11am on Thursday (July 23).
The Canyonleigh Community Association advised that committee members would be attending Tuesday’s session, to gather information and to ask questions.
It will prepare a report to share with residents after the session.
