Goulburn will play host to the Monaro Junior Rugby Sevens Festival, with teams from across Southern New South Wales and the ACT set to descend on Simon Poidevin Oval for an exciting weekend of junior rugby this Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 March.

Goulburn will play host to the Monaro Junior Rugby Sevens Festival, with teams from across Southern New South Wales and the ACT set to descend on Simon Poidevin Oval for an exciting weekend of junior rugby this Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 March.
Around 300 players from 23 teams will compete across U14 and U16 Boys and Girls, and U18 Boys divisions, with teams competing for the title of Monaro Junior Rugby Sevens champions in their respective grades.
This year marks an exciting new chapter for the event, with the Junior Rugby 7s Festival relocating to Goulburn, after previously being held in Ulladulla.
The festival will place the Goulburn Rugby Union Club (known as ‘The Dirty Reds’) at the centre of a growing regional rugby competition that continues to attract teams, families, and supporters from across Southern Inland NSW, the South Coast, the Monaro region, and the ACT.
The event is expected to attract around 800 people per day across the two days, including players, officials, families, and supporters.
Event organisers say the move to Goulburn provides an opportunity to showcase the sport and strengthen rugby across the wider region.
“The Monaro 7s is shaping up to be a fantastic event for the region, bringing teams, families and the Goulburn community together to celebrate rugby,” ACT & SNSW Development Manager, David Southwood said.
“Hosting a rugby sevens tournament at Simon Poidevin Oval provides a great platform to showcase the game across the Monaro region while creating opportunities for players to compete in an exciting, fast-paced format. Events like this will help strengthen the connection between local clubs, schools, and the broader rugby community, while highlighting Goulburn as an important hub for the sport.”
“We’re proud to deliver this event with the support of Goulburn Mulwaree Council and the Goulburn Rugby Union Club, and to welcome teams and supporters from across the region to Goulburn,” Mr. Southwood said.
“Tournaments like the Monaro 7s not only promote participation and youth development but also bring positive social and economic benefits to the community through increased visitation and local engagement.”
The tournament will run from 12.00pm – 5.00pm on Saturday and from 10.00am – 3.00pm on Sunday.
Simon Poidevin Oval is located at 228 Addison St, Goulburn.
Admission is free for all spectators.
