International attention on Moss Vale as data centre fight steps up
A forum being held in Moss Vale this Sunday (August 9) looking at a proposed AI data centre is attracting international media attention.

Organisers say journalists from around the world will be converging on the Moss Vale Services Club to cover the event.
Global news wire Reuters, South Korea’s The Korea Times, and SMH/Good Weekend are among the major outlets confirming attendance.
The Southern Wire will also be in attendance.
The forum, organised by the Stop the Gas Plant: Southern Highlands, follows growing national and international scrutiny over Big Tech’s energy footprint.
At the centre of the local dispute is a proposal at 30 Douglas Road, Moss Vale, where developer Nakar Property/CloudCarrier is pursuing a cumulative 703.2 megawatt (MW) masterplan footprint.
The proposal comprises 21 industrial gas generation halls and 23.5-metre exhaust stacks and will be built to run a private data centre off-grid inside the Sydney Drinking Water Catchment.
If approved at full scale, the private generation precinct would rank as one of the three largest reciprocating gas engine power stations on Earth, drawing intense international focus on how global tech supply chains impact regional communities, local health and climate targets.
Sunday’s forum will be held at the Moss Vale Services Club (corner Argyle and Yarrawa Streets) from 5pm to 7pm.
Speakers and panellists will include NSW Senator David Shoebridge (policy gaps and data centre regulation), senior climate expert with Greenpeace Australia Pacific Dr Simon Bradshaw (grid capacity, energy transitions and global AI demand), Federal Member for Whitlam Carol Berry, Dr Jacqui Duc from Doctors for the Environment Australia and Parents for Climate (public health and air quality impacts) and community campaign representatives providing an update on active NSW Land and Environment Court proceedings (DA 26/0352) and State Significant Development status (SSD-102795459).
