Hume highway havoc after caravan crash

A driver has been taken to hospital after a van towing a caravan crashed on the Hume Motorway at Welby earlier today (Monday).

A driver has been taken to hospital after a van towing a caravan crashed on the Hume Motorway at Welby earlier today (Monday).

Emergency services were called to the crash about 12.30pm, with crews from Mittagong Rural Fire Service, Fire and Rescue NSW, the NSW State Emergency Service and NSW Ambulance responding.

Firefighters provided fire protection at the scene while SES crews and paramedics safely freed the driver from the vehicle.

The driver was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital by NSW Ambulance. Their condition has not been released.

Rural Fire Service crews also assisted with the clean-up operation before the motorway was reopened to traffic.

Following the incident, Mittagong RFS has issued a plea to motorists towing caravans or trailers to ensure they are familiar with towing rules and their vehicle's towing capacity before travelling.
