Hume Highway closed at Yass due to toxic smoke in truck crash

The Hume Highway is closed with significant delays and traffic diverted along Yass Valley Way and the Barton Highway for up to 90 minutes or more due to toxic smoke billowing from a truck on fire that occurred earlier this morning.

The Hume Highway is closed at Yass with significant delays and traffic diverted along Yass Valley Way and the Barton Highway for up to 90 minutes or more.

There is an extended exclusion zone due to toxic smoke from lithium batteries being alight. If anyone resides in Yass Valley area and suffers from respiratory illness or injury, they are advised to shut windows and doors and stay inside.

Avoid going outdoors where possible.

And delay any travel as the highway will be closed for an extended period.

Traffic delays will be long on both lanes. Advice is to follow directions of TMC and emergency services personnel.
