Highway Patrol strikes again with $840,000 cannabis seizure

Yass Highway Patrol officers have allegedly seized another major cannabis haul on the Hume Highway, just days after an $850,000 seizure near Bowning.
Police said officers stopped a vehicle on the Hume Highway at Bookham about 11am on Tuesday for random testing.
The driver and sole occupant, a 44-year-old man, allegedly returned a positive roadside drug test for cocaine.
Police then searched the vehicle and allegedly found several large black garbage bags containing cannabis.
The man was arrested and taken with the vehicle to Yass Police Station, where police completed their search.
Police allege 10 bags containing a total of 79 kilograms of cannabis were found, with an estimated street value of $840,000.
The man was charged with supplying a prohibited drug greater than the commercial quantity and possessing a prohibited drug.
The man appeared before Bail Division Court 3 this afternoon where Bail was refused and no plea wa enetered. The matter was adjourned until 18 November 2026.
The latest seizure comes just four days after Yass Highway Patrol officers allegedly found more than 85 kilograms of cannabis, valued at about $850,000, in a Kia Carnival stopped on the Hume Highway at Bowning on Friday 4 September.
Combined, police have allegedly seized more than 164 kilograms of cannabis worth approximately $1.69 million from two vehicles on the Hume Highway near Yass in less than a week.
