Gunning set to go off this weekend with fireworks festival
The little town of Gunning is set to go off with a bang this weekend for the 26th annual Gunning Fireworks Festival.

The little town of Gunning is set to go off with a bang this weekend for the 26th annual Gunning Fireworks Festival.
It first started around 1999 by Fireworks Australia and was originally held at the Gunning Golf Course, and the festival was formerly a trades show for professionals in the fireworks industry but grew to become an institution in the town.
Fireworks Australia produce fireworks displays across Australia and supplies parts and services to the film and television, entertainment and events industries.
“The festival became so popular that it would cause traffic problems in the village, and so in 2010 we changed the location of it to the Gunning Showgrounds, which are a much bigger premises,” Director of Fireworks Australia, Martin Brady, told the Southern Wire.
“It was starting to wind down a little before COVID as the costs of everything were becoming somewhat prohibitive. In fact, during COVID we stopped it altogether, but last year we rebooted it again and the public started coming back again.”
The festival now hosts upwards of 150 fireworks companies who show off their product to the public.
“There’s a special section in the crowd where people from the industry actually come and see the product in action,” Mr. Brady said.
This year will feature two synchronised musical fireworks displays, a new daytime smoke demonstration, a performance of Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky's "Beating the Retreat" played by the Tuggeranong Valley Band, complete with live cannon simulations, as well as the ever-popular fireworks demonstration.
The festival also partially sponsors a car that participates in the Variety Bash who is a fan of the fireworks.
Gates will open from 3:00pm, with the fireworks commencing from approximately 4:00pm.
Mr. Brady said that the main fireworks show will commence from 6:30pm, with over 90 different fireworks being shown, and even flamethrowers.
The final pyromusical extravaganza will start from 8pm, with gates closing at 9pm.
There will also be carnival rides for the kids as well as food vans and market stalls.
