Goulburn Base Hospital has welcomed 19 senior doctors in a major recruitment boost designed to strengthen specialist services and ease pressure on existing staff.
Goulburn Base Hospital has welcomed 19 senior doctors in a major recruitment boost designed to strengthen specialist services and ease pressure on existing staff.
The doctors bring expertise in emergency medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, general medicine, rehabilitation, orthopaedic surgery and stroke medicine.
Government member of the Legislative Council Bob Nanva said the appointments would improve local access to specialist care.
“More senior doctors will help alleviate pressure on staff and additionally improve the accessibility of specialist services at the local level,” Mr Nanva said.
Acting Southern NSW Local Health District chief executive Joe McDonald credited the hospital’s medical leadership, clinical teams and recruitment staff with reaching the milestone.
“Welcoming more senior medical officers means greater continuity of care for our community, stronger support for the junior medical workforce and improved opportunities to grow specialist services into the future,” Mr McDonald said.
Goulburn Base Hospital director of medical services Dr Pradeep Mishra said the result came from months of work behind the scenes.
“None of this is down to one person. The medical heads of departments and credentialing teams have been quietly working together for months to strengthen our workforce,” Dr Mishra said.
“While there is more work to do, these appointments represent an important step towards building a stable senior medical workforce and making Goulburn a place where clinicians choose to build their careers.”
The additional doctors are also expected to strengthen teaching, supervision and training opportunities for junior medical staff while improving continuity of care for patients across Goulburn and surrounding communities.
