Goulburn Mulwaree Council is inviting the community to have their say on the Draft Goulburn Overland Flow Flood Study.

This study looks at overland flow flooding (water that flows across the ground during heavy rain), which is different from the river-based flooding examined in the 2022 Floodplain Risk Management Study.

The draft study:

• Identifies areas in Goulburn that may be affected by flooding;

• Assesses how severe flooding could be in different events;

• Uses modelling to understand how water moves across the landscape; and

• Considers factors like climate change.

Some property owners may receive a letter if their land is within areas affected by a 1% Annual Exceedance Probability (AEP) flood (previously known as a 1-in-100-year event) or a probable maximum flood (PMF).

Flood impacts can vary a lot from property to property, depending on water depth and flow speed.

The draft study will be on exhibition in the Goulburn Mulwaree Council Civic Centre from Thursday April 2 through until close of business on Monday 18 May.

It will also be available in the Goulburn Mulwaree Library during business hours, or online on the Goulburn Mulwaree Council web site at www.goulburn.nsw.gov.au under the ‘Public Exhibition’ section.

Submissions for the draft study must be made in writing and addressed to the General Manager, with the subject heading ‘Goulburn Overland Flood Study’ via post to Locked Bag 22, Goulburn NSW 2580 or emailed to council@goulburn.nsw.gov.au.

Also, for a one–on–one meeting with council planning staff, contact them on 4823 4577 during business hours to arrange an appointment.

There will also be some information sessions hosted by Worsley Consulting and Council staff on Wednesday 15 April at the Civic Centre, 184 Bourke St Goulburn. Times are again available on the Public Exhibition webpage.
