Motorists are being warned to expect significant delays on the Hume Highway near Sutton Forest and Penrose today (Good Friday).
Heavy traffic is building around the Hanging Rock Road turn-off as thousands of people attend the annual Passion Play at Penrose Park.
The event typically draws large crowds, with high volumes of vehicles exiting the highway, leading to congestion — particularly in southbound lanes and around the Sallys Corner interchange.
Delays are expected from early this morning through to the afternoon.
Police and traffic management crews will be on site, however motorists should prepare for stop-start conditions and slower travel times.
Drivers are advised to allow extra time for their journey, consider alternative routes where possible, and follow all directions from police and traffic controllers.
Increased pedestrian activity is also expected in the area.
