Work to upgrade a key water main in Goulburn is set to get underway, with residents warned to expect some disruption along Goldsmith Street.

Goulburn Mulwaree Council has confirmed civil works will take place between Fitzroy and Albert streets, with crews to carry out service locating, boring and excavation along the footpath.

Preliminary work has already started from 28 April, with major construction expected to ramp up in early to mid-May.

Traffic control will be in place throughout the project, along with pedestrian detours. Council says disruptions should be minimal, but motorists and locals are urged to follow directions from on-site traffic staff.

Importantly, there are not expected to be any interruptions to water supply during the works, aside from a short shutdown when final connections are completed.

Council says the upgrade is part of essential infrastructure improvements and has thanked the community for its patience.
