After struggling for weeks with disruption of free-to-air television services, the community of Taralga is finally relieved to have their full service restored by wind farm company, Pacific Blue, the owners and operators of the nearby wind farm that overlooks the village.

The Taralga community told Pacific Blue that the disruption was primarily impacting commercial channels, such as Channel 9 (and associated 9 Entertainment-owned channels, such as 9Life and GO!), Prime7 channels (including 7 Network-owned channels, such as 7TWO and 7MATE), and the SBS-owned channels.

“Pacific Blue first installed the re-transmission device in November 2015 and it was designed to receive signal from a broadcasting tower in Wollongong and to boost the signal for local households that depend on rooftop aerials to receive their television,” a spokesperson from Pacific Blue told The Southern Wire.

“With the recent repairs, this required the television signal to undergo an outage for roughly two days, while all key components were upgraded to more modern equipment than those that were installed ten-years ago.”

Member for Goulburn, Wendy Tuckerman MP welcomed the restoration of services.

Mrs. Tuckerman has been actively advocating on behalf of the community since July, after the damaged re-transmitter left households without access to key channels and vital local news bulletins.

“Local news and television services are essential for regional communities, especially in times of emergency,” Mrs. Tuckerman said.

“I am pleased to confirm that as of Wednesday October 1, full television reception has been restored to Taralga village.”

Mrs. Tuckerman paid special tribute to Pacific Blue’s team for their cooperation and professionalism, singling out Lachlan Sturt and Hannah Coffey for their outstanding efforts in resolving the issue.

Mrs. Tuckerman also acknowledged Pacific Blue’s broader support in undertaking both interim measures and long-term fixes to ensure the reliability of services moving forward.

“I want to thank the residents of Taralga for their patience during this frustrating time, and to Pacific Blue for working closely with my office to listen to the residents and deliver this truly ideal outcome,” Mrs. Tuckerman said.

“Communities that host renewable energy projects should not be left struggling for basic services such as television reception. It is not a luxury — it’s an essential service that most people rightly take for granted.

“Taralga residents have shown remarkable patience throughout this ordeal, but they should never have been placed in this position in the first place. I am pleased that after strong advocacy, this matter has finally been resolved.”
