Forum to meet on Wednesday night
Local residents will be in for a laugh at the next meeting of the Southern Highlands Community Forum on Wednesday, September 23.
Local residents will be in for a laugh at the next meeting of the Southern Highlands Community Forum on Wednesday, September 23.
One of the speakers on the night will be Burradoo resident and professional voice actor, Rupert Degas.
Mr Degas is the voice of Thomas the Tank Engine, Blinky Bill, Bob the Builder and a whole range of other popular television characters.
He is also the creator of The Albo Diaries on Substack, Apple Podcasts and Spotify.
The Albo Diaries is a satirical weekly comedy series written and performed by Degas in the form of a fictional, late-night diary of Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
Forum coordinator Raymond Khoury said Mr Degas would be talking about his career and demonstrating some of his voice acting skills on the night.
Mixing light entertainment with a more serious issue, the other guest speaker at Wednesday night’s meeting will be the founder and chair of Lydia’s Legacy, Paul Riley.
Mr Riley will be talking about homelessness in the Southern Highlands and what the local community can do to assist.
Lydia’s Legacy is a Southern Highlands charity working to provide practical, supported accommodation for people experiencing homelessness.
It estimates that more than 80 people may be sleeping rough in the Southern Highlands every night.
The organisation’s priority is helping vulnerable people, including victims of domestic violence and older women.
Dr Khoury will also speak on the night and will provide an update on what has been happening at Wingecarribee Shire Council.
The Wednesday, September 23 meeting will be held from 7.30pm to 9pm at The Venue in Station Street, Bowral.
Doors will be open from 7pm with free tea, coffee and muffins on arrival.
Time will be set aside after the presentations for people to ask questions, raise concerns and share ideas.
