The first meeting of the newly founded Southern Highlands Community Forum will be held this coming Tuesday night (May 5).

The Community Forum has been founded by former coordinator of the local branch of the NSW Libertarian Party, Dr Raymond Khoury.

Dr Khoury said the Forum would focus on local issues, and the “word around town” was that Tuesday night’s meeting would attract a full house.

Tuesday night’s speakers will include Anna Phillips, who will provide an update on the on-going fight against the proposed Repoly plastics recycling facility in Moss Vale.

Other speakers will include Wingecarribee Shire councillors Sara Moylan and Rachel Russell, who will both speak on the proposed rise in council rates and charges outlined in the Long Term Financial Plan 2026-2036.

Dr Khoury said the presentations would be followed by a question-and-answer session, giving people the opportunity to “ask questions, raise concerns and share ideas”.

Tuesday night’s meeting will be held at The Forum, 40 Station Street, Bowral, with doors to open at 7pm.

There will be free tea, coffee and muffins on arrival, with the presentations to commence at 7.30 pm.

Dr Khoury said the Community Forum would continue to meet on the first Tuesday of every month and would focus on local issues “as they arise”.

He said the proposed South Bowral housing development could be a topic for discussion at one of the Forum’s upcoming meetings.

He is also planning to hold a ‘meet the candidates’ session in the lead up to the next State election in March next year.

Dr Khoury said he would remain a member of the Libertarian Party, but the Southern Highlands branch had been closed down.
