Flags will be flown at half mast at the Civic Centre in Moss Vale on Thursday (January 22) to mark a National Day of Mourning.
The building will be illuminated on Thursday evening.
Wingecarribee Shire Council says the National Day of Mourning for victims of the Bondi terror attack will provide an opportunity for communities across Australia to pause, reflect and stand together in solidarity.
Local residents are invited to take part in the event through “simple acts of remembrance and reflection”.
Residents may light an LED candle in the Civic Centre atrium and a condolence book will be available.
At 7.01pm on Thursday evening Australians are invited to observe a minute of silence and to leave a candle on their doorstep or in their window.
“This is also a time for Australians of all faiths and backgrounds to come together in unity, spend time with family and friends and undertake mitzvahs for Bondi – acts of kindness and compassion carried out individually or together,” Council said in a statement this week.
In Jewish tradition, a mitzvah is a moral responsibility expressed through practical action to help others.
These actions can be as simple as checking in on a neighbour, volunteering time, supporting local businesses or donating to those in need.
“Together these everyday actions create a powerful wave of goodwill in response to tragedy,” Council said.
Local residents feeling distressed or in need of support are encouraged to contact Lifeline on 13 11 14, Beyond Blue on 1300 22 4636 or other local support services.
