Firefighters battle it out in Goulburn championships
Firefighters from across New South Wales and Victoria descended on Goulburn today for the 2026 Regional Firefighter Championships, with the city hosting one of the state's biggest gatherings of emergency services personnel. The competition continues tomorrow.
Firefighters from across New South Wales and Victoria descended on Goulburn today for the 2026 Regional Firefighter Championships, with the city hosting one of the state's biggest gatherings of emergency services personnel. The competition continues tomorrow.
Held at North Park, the championships have brought together 22 teams to compete in a series of timed events that replicate real-life firefighting tasks, testing speed, teamwork and skill.
About 120 competitors and 50 officials are taking part, while more than 300 family members and supporters are expected to visit Goulburn over the weekend, providing a boost for local accommodation, hospitality and retail businesses.
Teams have travelled from across the state, with competitors coming from as far away as Casino in northern NSW and Victoria.
The championships are designed for both experienced competitors and firefighters taking part for the first time, offering an opportunity to test their abilities in a supportive and competitive environment.
Away from the competition, visitors can also explore displays from the NSW Rural Fire Service and the State Emergency Service.
Organisers say the event is as much about building camaraderie within Fire and Rescue NSW as it is about competition, with firefighters coming together to connect, share experiences and celebrate their profession.
Spectators are welcome at North Park tomorrow to cheer on the competitors, with events running from 7am to 1pm at 34 Chantry Street, Goulburn.
