Celebrations will be held at the Bowral Fire Station from 10am tomorrow to mark the station’s 100th birthday.

Guests will include Fire and Rescue NSW Commissioner, Jeremy Fewtrell, Member for Wollondilly Judy Hannan and Wingecarribee Shire mayor Jesse Fitzpatick.

Past and present members of Fire and Rescue Station 234 Bowral will also be in attendance.

According to the Museum of Fire, the Bowral fire brigade was formed in June 1893 and originally operated out of a small wooden fire station in Merrigang Station.

By 1924 the brigade had outgrown the small station so a neighbouring property was purchased and a new station built.

It was officially opened on November 20, 1925.

Brigade members will be using tomorrow’s celebrations to raise money for ‘Beat the Burn’ – a fundraising initiative helping children in The Burns Unit at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead.

In previous years Beat the Burn funds have been used to fund a specialist burns anaesthetist and burns physiotherapists as well as specialised pieces of equipment and innovative treatments.

Deputy captain Chris Trotter said the brigade  would love to receive a ‘mega’ donation.

Vintage fire engines will be on display outside the station as part of tomorrow morning’s celebrations.
