A man has been extradited from the ACT and is due to face court after an alleged attempted ATM theft and subsequent police pursuit in Tarago last month.
Just after 8.15am on Wednesday 24 June, emergency services were called to a licensed premises on Walker Street, Tarago, following reports of a break and enter.
Police allege two men arrived in a white hatchback and wrapped straps around an ATM before attaching them to their vehicle in an attempt to pull the machine from the premises. The attempt, unsurprisingly, was unsuccessful and the pair allegedly fled without the ATM.
About 9.40am the same day, police were called to a home on Braidwood Road, Tirrannaville, following reports of a second break and enter.
Officers attached to The Hume Police District located the white hatchback leaving the scene and initiated a pursuit after the driver allegedly failed to stop. The pursuit continued along Braidwood Road before being terminated due to safety concerns.
A short time later, police found the vehicle after it had rolled on Foxs Elbow Road at Warri. The two occupants, aged 42 and 38, were arrested at the scene.
Both men were treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Canberra Hospital under police guard.
On Thursday 25 June, the 38-year-old man was released from hospital, extradited to NSW and charged with two counts of specially aggravated enter dwelling with intent. He remains before the courts.
The 42-year-old man was arrested by ACT Police on Wednesday 8 July and appeared in the ACT Magistrates Court on Thursday, where his extradition to NSW was granted.
He was taken to Queanbeyan Police Station on Thursday, where police executed a warrant charging him with two counts of specially aggravated enter dwelling with intent – dangerous weapon.
The 42-year-old was refused bail and is due to appear before Bail Division Court 3 later today (Friday)
