Oxley College in Bowral has lost its most senior leader.

Scott Bedingfield has stepped down immediately as the school’s Head of College after two years in the position.

Parents were advised of Mr Bedingfield’s decision in a letter this week from the chair of Oxley College’s Board of Governors, Jane Crowley.

He will be replaced by the school’s Deputy Head of College, Mark Case, for the next 12 months as the Board assesses the “best permanent appointment moving forward”.

Mr Bedingfield has told the Board he wants to spend more time with his family and will be leaving the Southern Highlands to be closer to his parents.

Mrs Crowley thanked Mr Bedingfield for his contribution to the college over the past two-and-a-half years. In particular she acknowledged his work on the new classrooms that have been delivered under his tenure, the launch of Pre-K, unifying the students in both junior and senior schools under one house system, developing further subject choice for students through the introduction of Year 8 electives and subjects such as Industrial Technology, and the many ongoing opportunities for Oxley students available through the school’s participation in the Round Square international network of schools.

Mark Case has been a member of the College Executive since 2018 and has held the positions of Deputy Head Pastoral (7-12), Deputy Head – Head of Senior School and most recently Deputy Head of College (P-12).

According to Mrs Crowley he has demonstrated “outstanding leadership and commitment to Oxley” and has earned the respect and confidence of the college community.

He possesses a “distinguished record of operational and strategic leadership over the course of his 25 year career at independent schools in the United Kingdom and Australia”.

The Board has thanked Mr Case for stepping into the role and has asked the school community as he enacts the school’s strategic plan and aligns the students’ needs “with what Oxley offers for the benefit of our students, staff and community”.
