The new Bundanoon Place Plan – celebrating what makes Bundanoon unique and setting a long-term direction for its future – will be officially launched on Wednesday morning (October 4).
Wingecarribee Shire Council will launch the plan at Delicious Café in Railway Avenue, Bundanoon at 9.30am.
The event will double as a celebration of funding received by council from the NSW Government for construction of a High Pedestrian Activity Area in the village.
Guests will hear from council, Transport for NSW and Bundanoon Community Association representatives followed by light refreshments and an opportunity to connect with project partners and community stakeholders.
The Bundanoon Place Plan was officially adopted at council’s August meeting after two years of development including two rounds of community engagement and a public exhibition process.
It is the second place plan following the Robertson Place Plan developed as part of the Village Place Plan Program, supporting council’s place-based planning framework.
It is designed to provide a shared vision “that guides achievable and positive change” – addressing the Bundanoon community’s environmental, economic, social and cultural needs while also protecting and enhancing the village’s unique character.
The plan – which can be viewed in full on council’s website – lists a number of initiatives, the people responsible for delivering them (‘place partners’) and an indicative timeframe.
Two of the initiatives under the theme of ‘Our Places’ will be achieved through the construction of the High Pedestrian Activity Area in Railway Avenue.
Other initiative across all five themes – Our People, Our Places, Our Environment, Our Economy and Our Leadership – include a range of infrastructure projects, weed management activities and the opportunity for Bundanoon to be certified as a ‘Dark Sky Place’,
The International Dark Sky Places (IDSP) recognises communities, parks and protected areas around the world that preserve and protect dark sites through responsible lighting polices and public education.
Other initiatives include increasing mid-week activity and visitation in Bundanoon and potential involvement in the Australian Heritage Festival Week with walking tours and open buildings.
