Wollondilly Shire Council will renew the contract of its chief executive officer Ben Taylor for another five years.

The decision was made behind closed doors at Tuesday night’s council meeting.

Minutes from the meeting show the decision was unanimous.

While the Mayoral Minute relating to Mr Taylor’s annual performance agreement remains confidential – and the discussion relating to its contents was held in closed session – minutes indicate councillors were extremely pleased with Mr Taylor’s performance.

According to the adopted motion, Mr Taylor’s performance over the term of his current contract “has been consistently regarded as above expectations by the CEO Performance Review Panel”.

Every review of Mr Taylor’s performance since his commencement as CEO in 2019 has demonstrated he is operating at a “very high level”.

Council noted the “strong working relationship between councillors, the SLT (senior leadership team) and staff more broadly as well as the consistently strong regard and respect in which the CEO is held by council staff”.

Mr Taylor will be offered a new five-year contract from September 23, 2025 at a commencing Total Remuneration Package of $438,071 “in recognition of his performance in the role and the value to council and the community of Mr Taylor’s ongoing tenure in a time of significant growth and change”.

In a prepared statement issued shortly after the meeting, Mayor Matt Gould said Mr Taylor had continued to show “outstanding leadership” during a time of significant growth for the Wollondilly Shire.

“Ben has transformed council’s operations and under his leadership key performance indicators such as community satisfaction, responsiveness to our customers and delivery of our operational plans has improved year on year.”

Mr Taylor said he felt privileged to be CEO of Wollondilly Shire and was grateful for the opportunity to lead the organisation for another five years.

“This coming five years is pivotal for Wollondilly as our community and council growth accelerates,” Mr Taylor said.

“I look forward to working closely with the mayor, councillors, staff and community to make sure we deliver the outcomes this beautiful shire and community deserve.”
