Local residents are being invited to attend the official launch of Wingecarribee Shire Council’s new mobile library next week.

The launch will be held near 9 Railway Parade in Bundanoon on Tuesday (August 25) at 10am and will be attended by State Librarian Dr Caroline Butler-Bowdon, Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman and Wingecarribee mayor Jesse Fitpatrick.

A council spokesperson said the new mobile library would bring updated library services, books and resources directly to people across the Wingecarribee Shire, “improving access and giving residents greater opportunities to connect with library services”.

“We would love to see members of the Bundanoon community and surrounding villages join us for this special occasion.”

Council announced more than two years ago that it had been awarded a $207,104 grant under the NSW Government’s Public Library Infrastructure Grant program.

It has been used to upgrade the current mobile library vehicle, expanding its capacity and improving technology access.

Wingecarribee Shire Council Manager, Community Life and Libraries Kathryn Baget-Juleff said at the time that council was “incredibly grateful” for the grant.

She said the funding would strengthen council’s existing mobile library service and allow it to offer a wider range of resources and programs directly to residents in their communities.

The upgraded mobile library will feature a more extensive collection of books, audiobooks, DVDs and other resources for people all ages.

It will also offer enhanced access to computers, Wi-Fi, and online learning tools and will host a wider variety of engaging programs and events designed to foster a love of reading and lifelong learning.

The mobile service will continue to visit schools, childcare centres, aged care facilities, and other community locations.

The mobile library travels almost 10,000km a year and makes fortnightly visits to towns and villages across the shire including Bundanoon, Penrose, Wingello, Avoca, Burrawang, Robertson, Yerrinbool, Colo Vale, Balmoral, Hill Top, New Berrima, Canyonleigh and Exeter. The timetable for the mobile library is available online at Mobile Library - Wingecarribee Public Libraries
