Community input to help shape Settlement Strategy
Yass Valley Council will host a number of community drop-in sessions next week as work commences on a new Settlement Strategy.

Council is keen to hear from people about where they live and what they would like to see in the future.
The drop-in sessions will be held between 5pm and 7pm at the Murrumbateman Community Hall next Tuesday (August 18), at the Yass Valley Council Chambers next Wednesday (August 19) and at the Sutton Community Hall next Thursday (August 20). The survey will close on Friday, September 4.
A council spokesperson said the Settlement Strategy would provide a strategic framework for the sustainable growth of towns and villages across the Yass Valley.
It will identify appropriate locations for future housing and development that allows for planned sustainable population growth, including opportunities for more diverse and affordable housing options.
It will also consider opportunities to support sustainable employment growth by ensuring an adequate supply of employment lands - reinforcing the role of existing centres and encouraging investment that strengthens the local economy.
It will look to strengthen the vitality of the LGA’s towns and villages while protecting important environmental, cultural and agricultural assets.
The spokesperson said the Settlement Strategy would help those towns and villages retain their rich local character and strong sense of place into the future.
The strategy will apply to the townships of Yass and Murrumbateman as well as the smaller villages including Binalong, Bookham, Bowning, Gundaroo, Sutton and Wee Jasper.
Council is also reviewing the Yass Valley Water Source Strategy to ensure that developable land is unlocked in a manner that supports the logical and efficient use of land and resources.
It is anticipated that a draft of the Yass Valley Settlement Strategy and Review of the Yass Valley Water Source Strategy will be available for public exhibition in early-2027.
