Community helps police nab alleged Crookwell tyre slasher
Police have thanked members of the community after a 24-year-old man was arrested and charged for slashing all four tyres on a vehicle parked outside the Crookwell Hotel.
Police have thanked members of the community after a 24-year-old man was arrested and charged for slashing all four tyres on a vehicle parked outside the Crookwell Hotel.
Inspector Nick Wiles from The Hume Police District said images shared online proved “critical” in helping police to quickly identify the person involved and to progress the investigation.
Police say a woman parked her car on Goulburn Street at approximately 6.30pm on Wednesday, April 22 before attending the Crookwell Hotel with a family member.
Police will allege that a man attended the hotel later in the evening before leaving the premises and remaining in the vicinity for a significant amount of time and monitored the parked vehicle.
At approximately 9pm the man allegedly approached the vehicle armed with a sharp object and stabbed all four tyres before leaving the scene.
The owner returned to her vehicle a short time later to find all four tyres had been deliberately damaged.
Officers from the Hume Police District commenced an investigation into the incident, viewing CCTV footage and appealing for public assistance.
Images were shared online as part of the investigation, leading to information from members of the public which helped identify the person involved.
Following further enquiries, a 24-year-old man attended Yass Police Station on Saturday, May 3 where he was arrested with damage or destroy property.
He was granted conditional bail and is due to appear before Goulburn Local Court on Tuesday, June 10.
Polie have reminded the community that vandalism and property damage are serious offences.
